Templates & Message Composition

AI-drafted SMS, email, and voice templates with reusable variables.

  • What is a template?

A template is a reusable message for SMS, email, or voice. Templates have a name, an optional category (Notification, Reminder, Confirmation, Marketing, Welcome, Follow-up, Receipt), and the message content. They can contain variables like {{first_name}} that are filled in from the contact record at send time.

  • How does AI-assisted template creation work?

On the Create Template page, type a plain-English description of what the message should say ("Confirm the appointment was booked and include the date and a calendar link"). Pick a tone (Professional, Friendly, Casual, or Urgent) and click Generate All. The AI drafts an SMS, email, and voice script simultaneously in a single call. Review each draft, edit any of them inline, then save the ones you want as templates.

You can also deep-link to the create page with a prefilled prompt — for example, the starter templates on respectly.ai use this to seed a starter prompt when you click them.

  • Can I create templates by hand without using AI?

Yes — from the Create Template page click SMS Template, Email Template, or Voice Template to open the per-channel editor with a blank form. No AI credits are consumed.

  • What variables can I use in templates?

Any contact field — built-in (first name, last name, email, phone, company) or custom — can be referenced as {{field_name}}. The send wizard previews each message with real contact data substituted so you can verify before sending. Missing values are handled with optional fallbacks: {{first_name | "there"}}.
